Discovery of Graphite

In the early 16th century, a storm in Cumberland, England, changed the history of the pencil. It is said that during this storm, a black mineral known as graphite was discovered. Because graphite had writing properties similar to lead but left darker marks, it was referred to as "black lead."

Manufacturing of Pencils

In the 17th century, significant breakthroughs in pencil manufacturing occurred. The Nuremberg Pencil Factory in Germany was established, becoming the world's first factory dedicated to pencil production.
