古代傳說

直尺的發明者無人知曉,但坊間流傳直尺和圓規是由伏羲及女媧發明的。早在東漢時期,山東武梁祠石室中就有「伏羲氏手執矩,女媧氏手執規」的塑像,其中的「矩」指的便是直尺。


發展歷程

數學的應用:數學家高斯在19歲時僅用圓規和直尺畫出正十七邊形,這一成就顯示了直尺在數學上的重要性和應用。


材料的演變:隨著時間的推移,直尺的材料從最初的木材、金屬逐漸演變為塑料和其他合成材料,這使得直尺更加輕便和耐用。

Origins and Development of the Ruler

Ancient Legends

The inventor of the ruler remains unknown, but there are legends suggesting that it, along with the compass, was created by the figures Fuxi and Nuwa. As early as the Eastern Han period, statues were found in the stone chamber of the Wuliang Temple in Shandong, depicting "Fuxi holding a ruler and Nuwa holding a compass," where "ruler" refers to the straightedge.

 

Development History

Mathematical Applications:The mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss famously constructed a regular 17-gon using only a compass and straightedge at the age of 19, demonstrating the ruler's significance and application in mathematics.

 

Material Evolution:Over time, the materials used for rulers evolved from the original wood and metal to plastics and other synthetic materials, making rulers lighter and more durable.
